With all of the chemicals and environmental pollutants in our surroundings, it can be hard to avoid the effects and damage they cause to our bodies, inside and out. Add that to an unhealthy lifestyle of limited activity and process foods and you’ve got a recipe for disaster!! Your lifestyle, whether good or bad, tends to show up on the biggest organ of your body; your skin. The condition of your skin can be one of the first things that people notice about you, and glowing fresh looking skin is something that most of us aspire to achieve.
You don’t need to spend a lot of money or travel far and wide to find products or ingredients that will help to liven up your look; most of the things that will work wonders can be found in the average household, or purchased relatively cheaply at your local grocery store. If you’re trying to avoid chemicals and fragrances but you want skin that people will sit up and take notice of, keep reading for some great tips and tricks. It should be noted however, before we get into the recipes and processes, that a healthy lifestyle is a good basis for any beauty regimen. You can attempt all of the natural applications in the world and still you won’t have the same results as you will if you provide yourself with a good foundation first. This foundation includes a good and sufficient sleep routine, a healthy diet of mostly fresh veggies and fruit, staying hydrated with plenty of water, good hygiene, and regular exercise. Once you’ve tackled these elements, a natural beauty routine is like icing on the cake when it comes to great looking skin.
Your first step is cleaning and exfoliating. This will help to get rid of dead skin cells and clean your face from some of the debris caught in pores. It will also help reduce the signs of acne. One of the very best ways that you can keep skin clean and glowing is to step inside your own steam shower. A steam shower will help to open pores, clean out any debris and will help to increase circulation, which means that your blood can carry more nutrients and oxygen to your skin to keep it looking healthy and fresh.
The exfoliate recipe involves taking 3 Tbsp of fresh cream, 1 C of white sugar, ½ C brown sugar, and ½ C of ground almonds. Blend all ingredients with 2 Tbsp olive oil or your favourite carrier oil. Apply to your face while it’s still dry and use a circular motion to exfoliate every area of the face and neck. Rinse with warm water.
Your lips might also need a little attention, and the following recipe is for them. By using a slightly abrasive material, you’ll get rid of dead skin and make lips appear fuller in an instant. Take ½ tsp of moisturizer (this could just be your favourite carrier oil), ¼ tsp of fresh coffee grounds, and ¼ tsp of salt. Kosher or another salt that has a larger ground is best. Mix ingredients into a bowl and then massage into your mouth for a few minutes, using gentle circles. Use a warm cloth to wipe clean. You can make a bigger batch if you like, and keep it sealed in a jar in the fridge between uses.
Acne is a problem for all of us in any stage of life. This recipe will help get rid of nasty blemishes quickly and fight bacteria on your skin at the same time. Take a sprinkle of Brewer’s yeast and mix with a little lemon juice and water to form a paste. Apply to the blemish and cover with a band aid. Leave for 10 minutes and then rinse.
Another great acne fighting recipe that also acts as a toner to even your complexion is with the use of basil. Take 3 Tbsp of basil (dried) and crush into 1 C of boiling water. Leave the mixture to steep and cool, then strain the leaves and pour the whole thing into a spray bottle. Spritz your skin and then dab with a cotton ball before exfoliating each morning or night.
Let’s not forget our moisturizer! This one is a great one for both hydrating skin and fighting the signs of ageing. Take 3 Tbsp of cream, a ¼ of an avocado and 1 Tbsp of honey. Put all ingredients into a blender and puree until smooth. After applying to your skin wait an hour or so before rinsing off. Try a variety of different home recipes and a steam shower to increase the health and glow of your skin.
